Miscellaneous information regarding Pewaukee Youth Baseball.

Coaches

*
•
Pewaukee Youth Baseball is completely run by dedicated volunteers, from the league president all the way down to the coaches of each team. Coaches can be moms, dads or even Grandpas! Coaches are not required to have played organized baseball to be eligible to coach. Anyone over the age of 18 who is knowledgeable about the game of baseball, wants to learn and have fun, and can dedicated themselves to spending 3 months or so of quality time with a bunch of kids who want to play ball is eligible to be a coach.
•
Each team will have a head coach, assistant coaches and a team parent. What is a team parent? Team parents provide the "glue" between the coaching staff and the players and parents. A team parent is usually made up of 1 part team trainer, team doctor, public relations director, and scorekeeper!
•
PYB retains many of its coaches from previous years to continue on with coaching in PYB, so the number of available coaching opportunities is limited, especially at the head coach level. People interested in coaching should contact Pewaukee Youth Baseball during the off-season. If your child is participating in Pewaukee Youth Baseball, you can also check the Coach or Assistant Coach checkbox on the registration form. Please note, however, that by registration time (Februrary time frame) most coaching opportunities will be filled.

Uniforms and Equipment

*

Pewaukee Youth Baseball provides each team with batting and running helmets, bats, catching gear and of course baseballs. Players are required to furnish white baseball pants and their own baseball gloves. General purpose-type gloves are recommended over position-specific gloves like first base and outfield.

Umpires

*
•
In the A Division, the team designated as the "home" team for a given game is responsible for providing a person to be the home plate umpire, usually a parent of the kids playing in that game. The umpire working the bases is the responsibility of the "visiting" team.
•
For the AA, AAA and Major divisions, Pewaukee Youth Baseball will provide the home plate umpire. The team designated as the "visiting" team is responsible for providing a person to be the base umpire, just like in the A and AA divisions. The home plate umpire does have the authority to disapprove the use of any base umpire.
•
In all divisions, the home plate umpire is in charge of the game, not the head coaches of the teams playing, not the vice-president of the league who just happens to be watching from the stand. The home plate umpire can overrule any judgment call of the base umpire, eject a player for deliberate abuse of any PYB equipment, and can even eject an abusive or foul-mouthed fan in the stands.
